Churros are a delightful breakfast snack. Originating in Spain, they are popular in France, Portugal, Morocco, America, Australia, and, of course, Spain and Tenerife!
They are typically served with thick hot chocolate for dipping, and can be eaten throughout the day.
Ingredients Needed
1 and a half cups of flour, 1 cup of water, a pinch of salt, 1 egg, sugar. You’ll also need some frying oil to fry the Churros in.
Cooking Instructions
Grab a saucepan, and boil the water, mixing in the salt. Once the water is boiling, pour it into the flour. You then need to mix it together, until the consistency is that of a pliable dough. Add the egg, and beat it all together until the entire mixture is smooth.
Now for the tricky part: you’ll need to put the mixture into a pastry bag, although a plastic baggie with the corner off will work just as well. Typically the dough is inserted into a pastry bag and a star shaped nozzle is used in this next process, but for home made Churros, you don’t need a specific nozzle shape!
Warm the oil until it is hot enough to cook with, but not so hot that its spitting. Pipe the dough mixture into the oil (there are several ways you can do this, in varying shapes – spirals, stars, circles, or simple straight lines), and fry until the Churro is a nice golden brown colour.
Once the Churro is ready, remove from the pan and leave it to drain. Once it is dry, sprinkle with sugar and it’s ready to eat!
For the best taste, serve with some delicious hot melted chocolate.
