Chef of the Month - by Tenerife Dining

Here at Tenerife Dining, we appreciate good food. Every month we pay homage to the best Chefs on the Island by awarding them the highly coveted 'Chef of the Month'.

Benjamín Bertl - Comer Beber Amar

Originally from Frankfurt Benjamin has a long experience in the creative cuisine.

Colorful fusion between German traditional food with delicious sauces, California Fusion, Indian cuisine; vegetarian and species, the healthy Thai cuisine with fresh ingredients. After 5 years of research for the perfect place, Benjamin opened last November his restaurant Comer Beber Amar (Eat Drink Love) in El Medano. Benjamin says with pride: I opened my restaurant in the prettiest village on the whole Island of Tenerife. My Menu has the dishes that I like to eat myself. Cooking natural and traditional without additives. I cut my potatoes myself and bring fresh ingredients from today’s marked. All sauces made the traditional way from the broth, and I love to cook with fresh herbs.

Amongst some pictures of the paintings by Gustav Klimt, our creative cook is inspired with the fresh sea air of El Medano and has created art like his signature dish: Ben’s Salmon. Delicious fresh salmon with spinach in Gorgonzola with Basmati rice. Another inspiration: Stuffed Mushrooms with Iberian ham and garlic. I’m curious to know that inspiration lent to name the restaurant Comer Beber Amar (Eat Drink Love): Of course, Benjamin says, simply; these are the three main things that every human being needs to be alive!

Benjamin explains that the picture on the right wall of Gustav Klimt is called Mother and Child with the sensitivity of a novice father. Happy and proud father of a little son, Benjamin delicate touch with herbs and spices in his kitchen, a careful presentation of each dish generously served. I admit with satisfaction that I have had fantastic meals and several times in this cosy and friendly restaurant on the fresh terrace with beautiful views over the bay of Medano. Benjamin’s dishes are carefully presented, rich and generous, The restaurant has also an excellent choice of Spanish and Canarian wines. Always fresh quality vegetables from the market, some delicious goat cheese, and always a warm welcome of Benjamin, our Chef of the Month. I hope to experience Benjamin’s creativity soon again, in the prettiest village on the Island of Tenerife.

Tenerife Dining's Chef Of The Month

Nicola Picciau was born in Milan in 1978, and from an early age he displayed a passion for cooking and working in kitchens, as was the family tradition, inherited from their ancestors. He first learnt his cooking skills from his Grandmother's farm in Sardinia, where he kept his large family happy with various Mediterranean recipes.
